Mexico 5000 Pesos Banknote 1987 AU
Mexico 5000 pesos banknote 1987, graded as about uncirculated (AU) condition or much better. The obverse features portrait of the Niños Héroes (Boy Heroes, or Heroic Cadets) and the National Emblem corresponding to the Active Battalion of San Blas. The reverse depicting Chapultepec Castle, and to the right the coat of arms of the Heroic Military College, its design corresponding to 1847. Security features include a solid security thread and identical reversed portrait watermark. The Niños Héroes, a symbol of national identity and political sovereignty, were six Mexican military cadets, all between the ages of 13-19 years old, who were killed in the defence of Mexico City during the Battle of Chapultepec on 13 September 1847, one of the last major battles of the Mexican-American War.
